My Onyx Connection

When You Are In Pain
Feel Pain To Overcome It
Avoidance In Healing

Onyx is a stone that literally moves me to tears. No matter where I find it, I often have a tear in my eyes.

When I first saw it in Houston, TX at a little place in the middle of nowhere, it was shaped into a lamp, lit up with a light bulb. The glow of the light just enhanced it for me, but I found myself stunned and in tears staring at it. I almost bought it, but the price was a little more than I could pay.

Another time I found it was when I was in Sedona, Arizona at a gift shop. When I walked in the door, I looked at my husband and said, “That’s it – that’s the stone that I love so much.” It was in this beautiful lighted lamp that towered several feet off the floor. Again the price was too steep or it would have come home on the plane with me somehow. I had tears in my eyes.

At the time, it was hard to find out what the meaning of onyx was because very little was written about it on the internet. Now, if I search it, I find much more.

What Is Onyx?

Onyx comes in many different colors depending upon where it is found, from what I understand. I love the reddish-brown hues the most, but the color doesn’t matter too much.

Onyx is found in various places throughout the world. Some of these include Yemen, Uruguay, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Latin America. It is even found in the UK and in some parts of the US. I know much of what I see comes from Pakistan.

I’ve seen many things over the years explaining what onyx means. Recently I went to a store called The Rock Shop in Daytona Beach, which had a nice little sign with information about onyx. I’ll tell you a story about this place in a moment.

Onyx Meaning

  • Grounding
  • Self Protection
  • Boosts Self-confidence
  • Deflects others’ negative thoughts and criticism
  • Defense against those who are manipulative and argumentative
  • Improve functions of the nerves and sensory organs
  • Improves the ear and its functions

As you can see, it has some pretty good qualities to it. This leads me to share with you the story that happened when I visited the Rock Shop in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Rock Shop In Daytona Beach, FL

I was enjoying being inside the store, and something told me there was onyx in it. However, it was in the back and took me a moment to find. Once I did, I felt that emotional connection like I did years earlier. I had tears in my eyes. It was a strong energetic feeling for me.

I don’t know how to explain the connection, but it just grabs me without notice. It holds me as if I am safe. I can literally feel the power and vibration from it. It is so difficult for me to translate into words what it means to me.

I shared with a store employee how we had just adopted a beautiful gray kitten from the Orlando Cat Cafe and settled on the name of Onyx for him. He reminds me of what onyx stands for.

Telling this lady about the connection I have with onyx and our new cat, I’m pretty certain tears were running down my face. It was like at that moment, nothing else existed. Remember, I struggle to explain and translate what onyx means to me.

The Onyx Gift

The lady, out of a deep connection to her heart upon hearing this, went and found a little cutout cat-shaped piece of onyx and gave it to me as a gift. That act and that little cutout stone touched me deeply. Now, I carry it with me wherever I go because it is not only a gift, but it is very special to me.

One interesting thing that I chuckle about is that as much as I love this rock, I could never remember the name. It always eluded me and escaped my mind. No matter what, I’d have to ask Jeff what was the name of the stone I loved dearly. One of the reasons for naming our new kitten Onyx was that I would never forget the name of the stone again.

Whenever I hold the onyx shaped heart that I bought that day in the store, I just feel strengthened and more positive. I feel energized and my heart feels like it has more compassion. There’s just nothing like this feeling. If I could, I would have onyx covering much of my house. It is that special to me.

One day, I’ll have a lamp with it because the light inside a piece of onyx just brings it alive. For now though, I’ve got our new kitten to remind me of what onyx means as he is such a beautiful and happy kitten so full of joy and love.

The Emotional Connection For Me

I have no idea why onyx means as much to me as it does or how it came to be that way. Without a doubt, it is a strong emotional connection that lifts my spirits up in life.

Oh and if you’re wondering, here’s a beautiful picture of our adopted kitten from the Orlando Cat Cafe. His name is Onyx.
