Everyone is looking for relaxation exercises. In fact, if you do a google search for them, you’ll find a lot of different methods.
What's Inside?
One of the things that I think is crucial is to keep relaxation exercises simple and enjoyable. If you dread them, you probably won’t do them and that’s been the subject of this series on “How To Relax.”
Relaxation Exercises
Here are some items for relaxation exercises that I have created. Make sure you check out my books, music, and other blog posts as listed below. I’ll try to include some others that I also find helpful.
Ocean Wave Sounds
One of the things that I use at night to help me relax is a CD of Ocean Wave Sounds. I created this at New Smyrna Beach, Florida on the Canaveral National Seashore. It is an hour of ocean wave sounds just as they were that day on the beach. This CD really helps me relax and allows me to sleep. In many ways, it feels like I am at the ocean, listening to the sounds of the waves coming in and going out. Fortunately, I don’t live too far from this quiet beach area and can visit often.
Relaxing Spa Music
Imagine letting the music massage you. Your stress flows away from you as you listen to this beautiful melody. Just sit back and enjoy this musical massage. It isn’t often that we give ourselves time to relax and rejuvenate. Relaxing Spa Music allows your mind to paint a beautiful moment of escape from your daily life and stress.
Mind Body Meditation Exercises
These mind body meditation exercises are part of the companion CD to my book, Overcoming A Mysterious Condition. When I wrote this book, I wanted to make sure I provided some exercises that connected the mind and body together. It is designed to bring out the concepts found in my book but works completely fine as stand-alone relaxation exercises.
Overcoming A Mysterious Condition
If you have not read my book, Overcoming A Mysterious Condition, please check it out. So much of what started my journey to recovery grew out of the need for me to learn how to relax. In fact, chapter 5 of my book is about relaxation. There is much more to the book than this topic, but I would urge you to check it out. If you do, you also support me and I thank you for your support.
Steven Cravis Music
One of my favorite independent artists is Steven Cravis. His music is very relaxing to me and it is one of the main ones on my playlist. He has so many different CD’s and all of them are excellent. I not only use his music personally, but I have used it in my professional massage practice. You can check Steven’s music out at StevenCravis.com
Yanni
When I have had the opportunity to go to a Yanni concert, it feels like I’m sitting there for two hours getting a musical massage. I have had moments where I got very emotional as the music played. There are points where it feels like the stress just melts away from my mind and body. Even listening to his CD’s at home, I’ve had some of the same effects. Yanni’s music is powerful and if you have not heard of him, I would urge you to listen and enjoy. See if the stress melts away into relaxation as you do.
Bodywork and Massage
One of the best ways to help deal with stress is by using massage and bodywork. I do recognize that not all massage work is equal, but if you can find someone that really helps you let go, it is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. I try to get massage done frequently, even if it is only a short chair massage. The more stress we can discharge from the mind and body, the better nervous system resilience we will have. Make time to get regular massage and your mind and body will thank you for it.
Walking In Nature
One of the cheapest and most effective ways I’ve found to get rid of stress and relax is to go walking in nature. I love my time at the parks and the ocean. Sitting there at the park, listening and observing nature helps you get completely lost in the moment. The more you can be in the moment, the more your mind and body are renewed and rejuvenated.
Get Creative
There are so many relaxation exercises that you can do. I’ve only touched a few of the many that exist. The possibilities are limitless.
The biggest obstacle in the way of learning how to relax is taking the time to do it. Don’t be the person that says, “I’m going to spend more time relaxing,” and then doesn’t follow through.
Your mind and body deserve relaxation. Finding relaxation exercises that work for you give you amazing relaxation value for your life.
It is when we stop the numbing that we begin to realize what we can do to de-stress the mind and body. The more we look for healthy relaxation in our days, the more inspired we will be.
Please feel free to share your favorite relaxation exercises. You might end up helping someone if you do. I’m always looking for new things to try that could also work for others.
