Question 1: Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a writer, sociologist, independent mental health advocate and mother. In Spring I publish my first memoir on Amazon – Shining Light – about my experience of coercive control. I am writing the sequel – Holy Slut – about loneliness and my quest to find a spiritual side and love.
Question 2: What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Shining Light
Question 3: How long does it take you to write a book?
It took 6 months to write my first book and then 6 months to complete the diagrams for it with the illustrator/genius, Victoria Casey.
Question 4: Describe a typical writing day.
I write in the evenings when my two children are in bed. I write at my kitchen table with Earl Grey tea or a G&T. Structural ideas and diagrams come to be both as I write and when I am not. I write about my experiences and my thoughts which tend to pour out as words. I think I must get into a ‘flow’ state when I write.
Question 5: What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Someone once told me to just sit down and write ‘my story’ at the top of the page/screen and just write it. I started that night. I have not stopped writing since.
Elizabeth Gilbert. Elizabeth Gilbert. Elizabeth Gilbert. Just to be really clear: Elizabeth Gilbert.
Question 7: What’s next for you as a writer?
I publish Shining Light on Amazon in the Spring. I continue to write and develop diagrams for Holy Slut and will embark on ‘ethnographic research’ for it too.
Question 8: Where can someone purchase your books, and how can they reach you?
Amazon. Soon. March maybe April.
